Gaining OEM Access Permobil / R-Net
(with a dealer level dongle)

*** DO NOT CHANGE ANY SEATING SETTINGS VIA THE R-NET SOFTWARE!!!***
this WILL break stuff!! it may look like ya can change settings, BUT not from the R-NET side of things!!

People tend to ignore this warning - but SERIOUSLY
DONT DO IT!!!
your chair will STOP DRIVING AND/OR WORKING COMPLETELY!!

**MAKE SURE YOU SAVE A BACKUP COPY OF YOUR OEM SETTINGS FILE!!!**
you'll want a backup to revert to if things get weird!

if you are having trouble getting things in this guide to work.. MAKE SURE you are using the software in the links provided!
and follow EVERY STEP in order - this method is ONLY verified working with these exact steps, and software

1) Get the software
a) Permobil Dealer Software -
PC Programmer (ver 6.1.5)
CLICK TO DOWNLOAD
AND
b) Sunrise OEM - - -
CLICK TO DOWNLOAD

if windows doesnt automatically install the dongle drivers -
(this is not always needed)

2) get a windows computer - (windows 7 or win 10) (maybe win 11.. IDK probably not..?)

3) get an R-Net USB Dongle (access level doesn't matter)

4) install permobil R-net Software, and get the chair connected to the dongle
(i wont cover how to do this - if you're attempting these mods - ya should already know what you're doing :^)

5) Open permobil dealer software, and 'read from controller'

6) file menu -> 'save as OEM'

7) wait for file to be created  (90 seconds max)

8) CLOSE the permobil software, and now: VERY IMPORTANT  -
-UNPLUG THE USB DONGLE FROM THE COMPUTER!

9) open sunrise OEM software (with R-Net dongle DISCONNECTED)

10) File -> open -> 'your oem file name'  (open the file you created with the permobil software

11) ignore any errors about access levels, or out of date software

12) now you can expand the tree, and make your changes! (be careful!)

at this point you can refer back to another guide on this site, if you were pointed here by another article.

FYI - Permobil has had to swap the names for some of the axis/seating functions, and they're not labeled correctly in this software!
(but youre NOT changing them anyways, RIGHT??!?! )

After making your desired changes,
come back to this article, and continue on with step # 13 below

13)  File -> SAVE AS... (you want to keep your original OEM file for later use, or mistakes as a backup)

14) Close sunrise software, reconnect the USB dongle,
and open Permobil Dealer software
(make sure the chair is connected in the software)

Stacks Image 73

15) open the file you edited in the sunrise software File -> open

16) in the box that pops up, click 'program' to immediately write your new file to the chair's controller

Stacks Image 77

17) Wait for a bit - sometimes the progress bar isn't accurate (90 seconds max)  if you get any errors, try re-writing again - but 90% of the time it'll work even if theres an error (unless you're trying to write settings for a different controller type (like from 90amp to a 120amp etc))

17.5)
there is occasionally a known issue writing modified files back to Permobil chair controllers sometimes.. usually i like to write the file 3 times in a row if any errors come up during the upload process.

typically after 3 'rapid fire tries' in a row, the chair will accept the new file, and everything will work. if after the 3rd try, there are still errors - power off the chair, reboot the computer and try again 3 times.

if this STILL doesn't work.. ensure everything is connected properly - and JUST before you click the 'program' button use the ICS seating buttons to start lifting the seat lift on the chair, click program, then after 3-4 seconds, let go of the seating button.

(if you don't have a seat lift, use tilt instead) (once the programming upload starts tho DO NOT press any other buttons on the chair, or move the joystick)

after the first SUCCESSFUL programming upload, subsequent uploads should work first try, and things will behave properly :^)

18) BURNOUTS!!
